Scripture & a Snapshot #29

I took all of the children to get haircuts on Friday.  Celeste is super excited about her haircut which I am so thankful for considering our past experience.

She got a cute little bob.

I have always loved this scripture.  My Mom told it to us growing up.  She helped me to be thankful for how God made me.  I pray that my children will grow up feeling the same way.

Visiting Daddy in the Studio

As I previously mentioned, Nathan has been in the studio throughout this month recording his album.  We are all so proud and excited for him!  The children and I had the opportunity to see the studio for ourselves the other night.

It was very exciting especially for the children to see all of the equipment including the big sound board.  The kids were super well behaved and just watched from the door without touching anything.  We got to hear a bit of the recording so far and it was great!  I can’t wait till the album is complete.

Side Note:  I feel like I could have titled this post, “What Happens When you are Trying to Take a Photo of 6 People”.  Ha ha.  The photo I selected above was definitely the best of the 10 photos I took.  I decided for amusement I would include some of the rejected photos.

My Favorite Present Ever

For Mother’s Day, Nathan took me to the jewelry store and let me pick out something.  He knew I had been wanting something to represent our children.  Upon looking at all of the options, Nathan helped me pick out a beautiful tree necklace that has each of the children’s birthstones in it.  I absolutely love it!

We got the necklace at David Douglas Jewelry.  Nathan has known the owner for most of his life.  All of their staff is so kind and helpful.  Nathan got me an eternity band from there years ago.  We have also gotten our rings sized and other jewelry maintenance there.  I would highly recommend you check them out for all of your jewelry needs.

Thankful Thursday Top Ten #38

This week I am thankful for:

1.  Another fabulous massage.  Yes, you read that correctly, I got a massage this week too.  Rachel Meece Therapeutic Massage even massaged Nathan as well today.  This was his first massage and he really enjoyed it too.  Ever since my massage last week, my back has been feeling so much better.  I am no longer in chronic pain.  I attribute that to Rachel and our new mattress.  She has extended her deal for 2-hour long massages for $100.  Click here to go to her Facebook page.

2.  Our babysitter, Kaitlin.  Friday was our babysitter, Kaitlin’s, last day working for us before she left for college.  It was sad to see her go, but we are excited for her!  The kids have been asking all week when she is coming back :)

3.  Pedicures.  I got a much needed pedicure today as well.  Between the back massage and foot massage at the nail salon, I was feeling pretty relaxed and pampered today!

4.  Ladies Night.  On Saturday, the ladies in our cell group got together.  We ate tacos, learned about couponing and chatted for hours.  I love this group of ladies!  They have such Godly wisdom and perspective.  Already looking forward to the next one!

5.  Date Night.  We went out with the Georgis to celebrate Nathan’s birthday (a little late) at Sal Grosso.  It was very yummy and we got a deal on Half Off Depot too which made it even better!

6.  Free sweet tea.  In case you haven’t heard, you can sign up for a free half gallon of Chick fil A sweet (or unsweet) tea good from August 1-13.  There are only so many reservations per location, so I recommend you don’t delay to get the deal!

7.  New beds and mattresses.  As I mentioned in my previous post, Kindle & Celeste got bunk beds, Gunnar got a new crib & Nathan and I got a new mattress.  The girls adore their new bunk beds.  Gunnar is always smiling when he is in his new crib. Nathan and I are both way more comfortable and not having aching backs.  I am also thankful for the awesome deals we got!

8.  Gunnar sleeping in the car.  Even with all of the noise, Gunnar can fall asleep and stay asleep in the car when we are out.  Of course, I prefer for him to nap in his bed, but when that can’t happen, him sleeping in the car is great!

9.  Daddy-Daughter date night.  Nathan and I both think it is important for us to spend one-on-one time with each of our children.  This Sunday, Nathan went with Kindle and 2 other Dads and their daughters to dinner, putt putt and ice cream.  She had such a fun time and is already asking to go again!

10.  Danimals smoothies.  The kids love to drink these smoothies.  I get them to put a straw in the lid so they can just sip them without making a mess.

Now it is your turn.  What are you thankful for?  If you have a blog, please link up at Curious Georgi.  If you don’t have a blog, feel free to leave your list under the comments.

We Got New Beds

We spent Saturday shopping for new beds.  Celeste broke her toddler bed last week, so she was in need of a new one.  Kindle had a twin bed, but there just was hardly any floor space in their room so we decided getting the girls bunk beds was the best solution. We went to Ikea Saturday afternoon and got them some bunk beds.  They are super excited about them!  It created so much more space in their room for them to play.

Gunnar has never slept in a crib.  When I was pregnant with him, we knew we would be moving and I usually keep the babies in our room in a pack ‘n play for the first few months.  We decided it was easiest to wait till we got to the new house to set it up.  If you have not heard yet, they just came out with new safety standards for all cribs.  They are doing away with all drop-side cribs. The one we had was drop-side and we got it at a garage sale, so I was not sure where to get the pieces to adapt it.  Also, we knew that Gunnar was going to need a toddler bed since Celeste broke the one we had used with each of the kids.  We decided to buy a lifetime crib that would convert into a toddler bed and then a full size headboard and footboard.  We had planned on purchasing one at Ikea, but they stopped selling all of them based on the new safety regulations until October.  We decided to go to Babies R Us instead. We found a great deal on a Graco one.  Nathan built it for Gunnar Sunday and he was so excited about his new bed!

And finally, Nathan and I were long overdue for a new mattress.  The one we had was over 12 years old and had seen better days. We had been discussing upgrading to a king size mattress for a while as well.  Both Nathan and I have been having chronic back aches and thought the unsupported mattress we were sleeping on was probably contributing to them.  We had been researching and testing out several mattresses.  The kids even helped us too.

We found an awesome deal on a mattress at a store close by that was going out of business.  We got it delivered Saturday evening and enjoyed a fabulous night’s sleep Saturday night.

We are all very excited about our new beds.  I am also so thankful for all of the great deals we got!

Slip ‘N Slide Races

The kids put their money for doing chores together and got a slip ‘n slide.  They picked out a dual racing Lightning McQueen one that came with floats to slide down on.

There is a flag at the end that the kids would grab to show who “won” the race.  They thought it was awesome!

They decided that they wanted to go faster down the slip ‘n slide, so we got out a bottle of baby shampoo and slicked it up.  It definitely made for a faster ride!

Gunnar was so cute standing by the windows watching them go down the slip ‘n slide.  He would just laugh and laugh.

We found this slip ‘n slide at Target on the end of the summer clearance, so it was around $20.  They had lots for under $10 too.  I definitely recommend getting one for hours of fun for the kids (and buy a bottle of baby shampoo/wash to make it even more fun).

Funny Friday #22

Grant doing his silly eyes.

Kindle and Gunnar are hilarious.  They both love sitting in my massaging chair together.  They think it is so fun to have it vibrate on their back.

The kids decided they would be cooks and dressed up in these costumes.

So I made a list on my phone of funny stuff the kids said this week.  Unfortunately, when I went to retrieve it, someone had deleted them.  UGH!  Oh well, I will have to make a new list next week.

Now it’s your turn, I would love to hear some of the funny stuff you have heard or your kids have said this week.

Thankful Thursday Top Ten #37

It has been another fun week around here staying very busy as usual.

This week I am thankful for:

1.  Playdate with new friends.  We got to go to a new park last Friday and hang out with some friends for a few hours.  The weather was beautiful.  The kids played really well together and I got to chat with their Mom. Yay!

2.  Charmin Ultra Soft toilet paper.  Hi, my name is Sarah and I am a toilet paper snob.  Nathan and I have tried every brand and this is by far our favorite.  It might seem silly to be thankful for toilet paper, but I definitely am thankful for it!

3.  Ice pops.  The kids love to ice pops year-round, but especially in the summer.  I buy the Popsicle brand slow melt Mighty Minis.  They are the perfect size especially for little ones.  I have a friend that got a Zoku Quick Pop Maker for her birthday.  (You can click here to read her blog post about it.)  I think I would love to have one.  You can make your own ice pops, yogurt pops, etc. in as little as 7 minutes.

4.  Haircut/color.  The lovely Ashley Valdes cut and colored my hair on Monday.  I had a pretty good amount cut off to get rid of the dry, unhealthy hair.  She did some subtle highlights since she will be having a baby in a month and a half.  I did snap a photo of myself today.  It is not the greatest, but you get the idea.

5.  Camisoles.  I don’t know what I did before I owned camisoles.  They are essential for me since I always have kids tugging at my shirt.

6.  A fabulous massage.  I have been having some lower back troubles and been to the chiropractor for it.  I went today to get a massage from the wonderful Rachel Meece Therapeutic Massage.  She does an amazing job.  She makes you feel so comfortable and relaxed.  I know a lot of people that feel nervous about being somewhat unclothed for massages (myself included).  Rachel ensures that you feel completely and totally comfortable the entire time.  I have had several massages from her including pregnancy massage.  They were all lovely.  I highly recommend her.  She is doing a promotion in July where you get 2 hour long massages for $100.  That is $40 off the regular price!  I definitely was excited to take advantage of that deal!  Click here to go to her information page on Facebook.

7.  Land’s End backpack diaper bag.  After having several types of diaper bags in all price ranges over the years, my by far favorite is the Land’s End backpack diaper bag I bought at a consignment sale for $20.  I got it back in 2009 to take on our trip to California and I have used it literally every single day since.  It is still in almost perfect condition even with all of the use I have gotten out of it.  I have learned that when you have more than 1 little person, you need your hands and arms free.  A backpack diaper bag is a must!

8.  Sibling sweetness.  We have been really working on putting others before yourself (see previous blog post here).  Each of the children have been doing little things for each other as well as Nathan and I.  They still have their moments (don’t we all!), but I have seen some great changes.  Cooper left this note for Nathan yesterday.  It melted my heart!

9.  Slip ‘n Slides.  I can remember how much fun we had with our neighbors Slip ‘n Slide growing up.  The kids bought one with their money from doing their jobs.  We got it out last night and they had so much fun playing on it.

10.  Movie night.  Last night, Cassie and I watched Pride and Prejudice.  We had hoped to go walking, but it rained off and on all day yesterday so that didn’t happen.  I hadn’t seen Pride and Prejudice in a while, but Beth Moore talked about it during Bible study yesterday morning so we both wanted to watch it again :)  Good movie, super fun company!

Now it is your turn.  What are you thankful for?  If you have a blog, please link up at Curious Georgi.  If you don’t have a blog, feel free to leave your list under the comments.
